Harris Nelson Spyder

We are working on this one! To get on the waiting list send an e-mail asking to be on the list. I'll provide all the details about pricing, shipping schedule etc., soon.

The Harris Nelson Spyder is much more than a larger version of the Shrike. While it does share a family resemblance to the Shrike, this plane is much bigger and sports a 72” double taper wing rather than the single taper wing found on the Shrike. It is also different in that it is a WINGERON model rather than a pitcheron. The Spyder can be set up with just two servos or if you wish the addition of a rudder “V” tail a third servo will be required.

For those of you that don’t know already, a Wingeron ship uses the wings for roll/turn but has an elevator for pitch control. It is still a two-servo model (unless you wish to add rudder) so your investment in radio equipment is still very reasonable.

The Spyder is a fast airplane and certainly not for the weak hearted or slow thumbs flyer. It will outturn most models on the slope including many of the new hollow molded ships. It can handle lots of air but can still be flown in a 10mph breeze.

Like all of Harris Nelson’s designs, Harris has created the wing section after many hours of testing, reworking, more testing and still more testing until it performs the way Harris envisioned it would. This is a proprietary airfoil with a race proven track record.

This full kit contains the following components:

  • Fiberglass fuselage
  • Carbon tail boom
  • Laser cut balsa tail group for cruciform tail
  • 4 High Load 60 CNC cut wing cores – the Spyder has a double taper wing
  • Fiberglass canopy, (carbon canopy available at additional cost)
  • Laser cut servo tray
  • All necessary hardware for wing activation including laser cut Delrin control cams, ball links, threaded rod stock, music wire for wing drive pins, brass wing rod tubes, carbon and steel wing rods (one each)
  • Laser cut plywood and balsa root ribs
  • Laser cut plywood sub ribs to support the wing rod tube and drive pin
  • Your choice of Obeechi or Poplar veneer wing sheeting
  • Basswood leading edge stock
  • Fiberglass to reinforce the sub-ribs that support the wing rod tube and drive pin sub-rib
  • Plans, directions with photo illustrations on CD Rom.
  • Printed directions available for those that do not have a computer at a nominal cost.

Pricing and availability will be announced when we get closer to a release date for this kit. We hope to have kits available by late winter or early spring. Testing is ongoing. When we feel we have reached perfection the kit will be released. We have already changed the tail design from a “V” tail to a cruciform tail and may make slight modifications to the wing. Please check back for updates on the release and price for this kit or look for updates on rcgroups.com in the slope section.
