The 3-meter KA6 is one of the most fun airplanes I own. It is a majestic flyer that can be flown on the slope, aero towed or winch launched. You’ll be amazed at what a great slope airplane the KA6 is. It can handle light to heavy winds with ease. It is gentle yet capable of loops and rolls. The KA6 makes a great trainer for someone wanting to get into large-scale gliders.

Plan on spending around 35 hours to construct this project. There’s really nothing difficult about this build. If you’ve had prior experience with building a foamie airplane this one will be easy. If you’ve had no experience with building EPP foam kits this will be a great way to get started. Larger planes like the KA6 are easier as tolerances aren’t so tight and the parts aren’t so delicate at the smaller models.

The airframe breaks down into four pieces; two wing halves, the fuselage and fin and the horizontal stab. That makes transporting this model a breeze. It can easily fit in the back seat of most cars. It will fit into a 12” square x 60” box so you can also ship it to your travel destination.

Your KA6 can be flown with a simple four-channel transmitter. It’s basically a 3-channel airplane Aileron, Elevator and Rudder with the 4th channel being used for the tow release, if you decide to build this into your model.

You’ll need four standard sized servos, (five if you are going to install the tow hook release) a full sized receiver and a 1000 to 1800 Mah battery pack.

A computer radio is hardly necessary but if you have one you’ll be able to program in some extra features such as aileron/rudder coupling and spoilerons. You could also add separate flaps but they really aren’t necessary.

The kit is quite complete but you will still need the usual items to finish it.

1. 5-minute epoxy and Goop adhesives. You could also use urethane glues such as ProBond or Gorilla Glue and hot melt glue.
2. 50-yard roll of filament tape.
3. 3 rolls covering material such as Ultracote
4. The normal assortment of modeler’s tools including hobby knife, razor plane, sanding blocks, etc.
