I’ve found the perfect tool. It’s the David Razor plane. I’ve tried all the small planes that are sold as modeling tools from the inexpensive plastic ones sold at hobby shops to the imported ones used by musical instrument makers. There is one tool in my shop that I could not live without and it’s the David Razor plane.
It feels right and it cuts like butter. The blades are high quality, very high quality, German steel. They seem to last forever and will cut harder woods better than any of the other planes I’ve tried. The David plane offers some unique options including being able to be used to carve concave shapes. You can also mount the blade in the front of the tool so that you can reach further into inside corners. Frankly, I never use mine for this purpose. I use it for shaping leading edges, trimming stock, making aileron stock from flat pieces of balsa and a lot more.

The David plane comes with two blades. I’d suggest you order a pack of ten blades in addition to the two that come with the David plane. These will last a long long time even if you work in your shop every day. You just won’t believe how long they will last. The blade is reversible too.
